CEN/TC 351 'Construction Products - Assessment of release of dangerous substances' is devoted to developing modular horizontal test methods. 'Horizontal' in this case means that these methods can be used for a wide range of materials and products with certain properties, whereas 'modular' means that a test standard developed with this approach concerns a specific step in assessing a property instead of the whole chain of measurement (from sampling to analyses). This approach aims at avoiding work duplication's within different Technical Committees that focus on specific products.
CEN/TC 351 has now published following five technical specifications (TS):
These TSs have been developed in response to EC mandate M/366, supporting the implementation of the Construction Products Regulation (EU Regulation No. 305/2011) covering the aspect of 'dangerous substances' within CE Marking Europe-wide. Participants to CEN/TC 351 include experts from the construction products industry and test laboratories, regulators at European and national levels and environmentally aware consumers. Its Secretariat is currently held by NEN, the national standardization body for The Netherlands.
